The Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" Tuzla organized the celebration of the European Day of Independent Living in Tuzla, on May 6, 2019.
The goal of organizing this event is to symbolically celebrate and promote the idea of independent living, so that as many citizens as possible are familiar with the ideology and concept of independent living as a link between the systems: architectural inaccessibility, insufficient education of persons with disabilities, inability to find employment and achievableemployment relationship, which directly affects the violation of human rights and human dignity in achieving independence, as well as life outside the family environment.

European Day for Independent Living is celebrated on 5 May and is an annual event that serves to raise awareness of the right to independent living and the importance of independent living for people with disabilities. Independent living is possible through a combination of various environmental and individual factors that enable people with disabilities to have control over their lives. This includes the ability to make their own choices and decide where, with whom and how they will live. Services for people with disabilities must be available, accessible to all and provided on an equal basis, with their free and informed consent, and enable people with disabilities to be flexible and independent in their daily lives.
