"My greatest victory" - stories of our activists about life before activism and today

My name is Elmedin Mujić, I was born on September 22, 2002 in Tuzla. I grew up in the village of Gnojnica near Lukavac, my earliest memories are of the hospital environment, gowns and beds, I don't want to say much about that. I will just briefly look back at my diagnosis, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. There was nothing else. which would set me apart from the other kids I grew up with. A large period of my childhood was spent in what I call "Child Welfare". Not to make myself a scapegoat, my childhood was not filled with the various stigmas that many people with disabilities unfortunately encounter throughout their lives. With a lot of support from my parents and close people, I started to live a more or less normal, as it were, full life, with a lot of falls and medical interventions, but what to do. I'm no medical expert to write extensive dissertations on all this. And about the impact it all had on me in my recent adulthood. I would like to emphasize this part RECENTLY... Because people started calling me "chiko", which I deeply disagree with! All kidding aside, my real problems started when my maturing period started - puberty. Puberty, an age that brings with it: confusion, new worries, new feelings and comprehensive change in every person. I began to isolate myself more and more and become an introvert, I admit that a lot of it still remains today, but it is gradually disappearing. I started working on this with the "Steps of Hope" day center, to whom I would like to express my heartfelt thanks. In the meantime, my high school education started (special shout out to Aunt Maida who I hope will read this one day, your student loves you). At the beginning of high school, I was an active member of the drama section in "Steps of Hope", and with their instruction, I also became a member of the "Youth Drama Studio" in Tuzla. My first contacts with IC Lotus were recommendations from older people that joining was probably the smartest thing I would do in the future. One such encounter that really left a lasting impression on me was the meeting with Adis Kišić. We were in rehabilitation together in Gradačac, and one night later we were talking about “Lotos” and she just told me “We’re waiting for you downstairs” and the rest, as they say, is history. “IC Lotus” introduced me to the world of activism and social responsibility. A world in which I have yet to prove myself and present myself.
