Tickets for the World Cup in Brazil for people with disabilities
RIO DE JANEIRO, December 24, 2011 (Beta-AP) – Former Brazilian footballers Romario and Ronaldo have announced that 32,000 tickets for the 2014 World Cup matches to be played in Brazil will be distributed to people with disabilities.
Romario, a member of the Brazilian parliament who won the 1994 World Cup with the Brazilian national team, asked the organizers for free tickets for people with disabilities who love football.
The former Brazilian national football team striker, whose daughter has Down syndrome, cried when he announced that the organizer had accepted the request.
Romario said the decision to hand out World Cup tickets to people with disabilities was a "big victory". Together with Romario at the time of the announcement of the decision was Ronaldo, who won the World Cup twice with the Brazilian national team and was the top scorer once.
Ronaldo is a member of the organizing committee that is organizing the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The organizers have decided to distribute 500 tickets to people with disabilities for each World Cup match, the AP news agency reported.
