The NGO Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" from Tuzla and the Association of the Blind of the Sarajevo Canton, in cooperation with the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from April 7 to 10, within the framework of the project "Creation of policies in BiH with respect for human rights and the rights of persons with disabilities” financed by the European Union, organized a study visit to Sarajevo, which gathered around forty representatives of government institutions from Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities, as well as representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the visit, several workshops and meetings were organized, where participants had the opportunity to exchange information on best practices and experiences in the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, all with the aim of improving the process of addressing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
Satisfaction was also expressed with the opportunity to learn about the processes initiated in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aim to better include persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and social trends.
Alessandro Di Giacomo, political officer for human rights at the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, informed the participants about the reform priorities in the field of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, and about the planned support of the European Union in the framework of pre-accession assistance through instruments for strengthening civil society, as well as the European Instrument for Human Rights and Democracy.
The immeasurable importance of such meetings was emphasized, with the hope expressed that there will be further opportunities for new meetings and similar exchange of experiences.
