From May 26 to May 31, 2025, I.C. 'Lotos' has the pleasure of hosting representatives from the organizations Kynnys ry and DPF from Finland, with whom we have a long-standing partnership in the fight for the rights and better position of women with disabilities.
The visit is held as part of the joint project Kynnys and I.C. 'Lotos': "Strengthening the position of women with disabilities in BiH – reducing discrimination and violence", which focuses on empowering women with disabilities through peer support, education, networking, providing support, and advocating against all forms of discrimination and violence.
During the stay in Tuzla, experiences from the previous implementation of the project were exchanged. Through open and constructive dialogue, the challenges faced by women with disabilities in their daily lives were discussed, as well as the ways in which the project has contributed to their empowerment. Joint planning for the next cycle of the project was also considered, along with the possibility of future activities that will involve women and girls with disabilities.
In addition to the work part, the visit program includes numerous entertainment and social activities with activists from Lotos, which contribute to mutual acquaintance and strengthening the sense of community. During the visit, a creative workshop was organized – painting, social games – darts, as well as joint walks around the city and informal exchange of experiences in a relaxed atmosphere. These activities represent an important segment of our joint work as they provide space for expression, creativity, friendship, and emotional support, which is crucial for the self-confidence of women with disabilities.
An important part of the visit program includes home visits to the project participants, through which representatives of Kynnys directly get acquainted with the living conditions of women with disabilities and their needs, challenges, as well as the strength and will they demonstrate every day. These visits enable a better understanding of the context in which the project is being implemented and help shape realistic and effective future activities that will meet the actual needs of women with disabilities.
Our partnership with the organization Kynnys ry is based on years of beautiful collaboration, mutual trust, and a shared vision in which women with disabilities are empowered, protected from violence, and have a dignified life.
This visit represents yet another confirmation of how important international cooperation is in creating inclusive practices that respect the dignity and rights of women with disabilities. Together, we will continue to build a space where women with disabilities are visible, valued, freer, empowered, and equal.
We thank our partners from Finland for their support, dedication, and friendship.
