On June 28, 2022, the promotion of the documentary film: "Personal Stories" and a Panel Discussion on the topic of gender-based violence against women with disabilities were held at the "Mandžić" Gallery in Tuzla. The promotion was attended by 25 participants, representatives of competent institutions - social work centers from the Tuzla Canton, ministries, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, organizations of people with disabilities, etc.
The promotion was implemented as part of the project "Stepping Out of the Shadows - Building Strong Women's Leadership in the Disability Movement", which was implemented in the past period by the "Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was funded by the Embassy of the United States of America in BiH.
The project and mentoring program addressed the particularly sensitive topic of violence and discrimination that people with disabilities are exposed to in their everyday lives. One of the results of the project activities was the willingness of people with disabilities who participated in the project to raise their voices and speak out about their experiences of violence.
The documentary illustrates the experiences of people with disabilities through peer-to-peer work and support, with the aim of empowering, ensuring equality, realizing rights and living a dignified life for people with disabilities. These experiences were presented during the filming and screening of the Forum Theatre, which is the key theme of the documentary.
At the Panel Discussion, representatives of institutions and organizations exchanged opinions on the forms and effects of violence experienced by people with disabilities, as well as responses and solutions for the prevention and protection of women with disabilities from violence.
