"Supported housing" started a real revolution in the lives of young people with disabilities, enabling them to live life according to their own rules. Cooperation of I.C. "Lotos" as the implementer and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of the FBiH as the financier, provided a personalized approach through the personal assistance service provided by Alma Šuvalić. Through everyday challenges, Alma realized that there are no universal solutions - each request has its own individuality, and she provides support that is adapted to the needs and wishes of each user.
Personal assistant experience
Question: How is the role of a personal assistant described and why is it crucial for a person with a disability?
Answer: My job is to enable users to take full control of their lives, supporting them in their daily activities. When the user needs to travel to work, I help him prepare for the trip - whether it's help in getting dressed, organizing transportation or just accompanying him. During the trip, I assist him in getting into vehicles, help him find his way around public transport or in parking lots, as well as orient himself in new locations. If the user has a business meeting, I can help him prepare, bring the necessary documents or even assist in communication, if help is needed in writing or speaking. I also help with everyday tasks such as going to doctor's appointments, paying bills or shopping.
Question: What changes can be observed in the lives of users with personal assistance?
Answer: The changes are incredible! With the support I provide, users not only complete everyday tasks - they reinvent themselves! They become more social, more active, more self-confident. My role is to support their autonomy. Everyone deserves to live life without limits, and I'm here to make that happen! ![]()

Question: How important is having personal assistance to fully achieve independent living?
Answer: When supported housing and personal assistance work together, they become a life-changing force. And users and assistants together make life full of possibilities!
With my presence, I enable young people with disabilities to not depend on others and to independently take responsibility for their daily routine. Without personal assistance, many people with disabilities would not be able to live in their own homes, perform basic tasks, or even participate in social activities.
Question: How does personal assistance contribute to the success of projects such as supported housing for young people with disabilities?
Answer: Supported housing cannot exist without personal assistance – that is an undeniable truth! Personal assistance is the bridge that allows young people with disabilities to move from one side to the other, from their current situation to a world full of possibilities. Through the assistance service, everything that was once difficult and unattainable becomes easier and achievable. They are not just beneficiaries – they are the leaders of their lives! ![]()
