Okrugli sto: „Primjene odredaba Člana 24 UN Konvencije o pravima osoba s invaliditetom i preporuka Komiteta UN u svjetlu pripreme Strategije inkluzivnog obrazovanja TK“

A roundtable discussion was held at the "Dramar" Shopping Center in Tuzla on December 22, 2021: "Implementation of the provisions of Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the recommendations of the UN Committee in light of the preparation of the Inclusive Education Strategy of Tuzla Canton".

The round table was attended by 14 participants, the moderator was the president of the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities of the Canton of Sarajevo, Suvad Zahirović, and the speakers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zumreta Galijašević, the director of the Institute for Education of Persons with Disabilities in Mental and Physical Development in Tuzla, Ms. Selma Hodžić, and the president of the Coordination Board of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities of the Canton of Sarajevo, Fikret Zuko.

Those present discussed the need and methods of working against discrimination against children and young people with disabilities in education, and achieving their participation on an equal basis with others, in the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It was determined that a major problem, in addition to non-compliance with legal regulations, is the lack of unity in the views of organizations of people with disabilities and the mismatch of expectations of parents, teachers and the community. It was concluded that ways must be sought to advocate for an inclusive environment and provide support, so that children and young people with disabilities would not be included in the educational process only to the extent that they can adapt to the system, but that the essence is to adapt the education system to students with disabilities. It was said that a key step in advocacy is in the equal understanding and unified approach to the right to education of all actors in the movement of people with disabilities, as well as recognizing the needs of children and young people with disabilities for inclusion in the educational process. It was also confirmed that more emphasis must be placed on the fact that inclusive education does not only mean enabling architectural accessibility, but also ensuring all forms of support, such as teaching assistants, personal assistants, assistive technologies, etc.

The round table was released as part of the joint activities of the coalitions operating in support of MyRight BiH 2020-2021.
