As part of the "Young Advocates" project, which is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" realized a two-day education intended for young persons with disabilities, with the aim of empowering them to actively advocate for the right to an independent life.
The workshop was conducted through a series of interactive sessions, in which participants learned about support services for independent living, the right to choose, responsibility and the importance of making one's own decisions through discussions, group work and practical exercises. The training was led by experienced trainers, and support was provided by assistants for people with disabilities, with accessibility conditions ensured.
This activity represents a key phase of the project, which, in addition to education, also includes the printing and distribution of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), the identification of young activists throughout BiH, and the implementation of local awareness-raising campaigns in the community and the media. The focus of the project is on the application of Article 19 of the UNCRPD, which guarantees the right to independent life and inclusion in the community.
The "Young Advocates" project contributes to the empowerment of young people with disabilities, strengthening of local capacities and greater visibility of the right to independent living in the public space.
