The Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" Tuzla, in cooperation with the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities of the Tuzla Canton, organized today a traditional reception on the occasion of celebrating December 3 - the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, at the Hotel "Salis" Tuzla. The event was attended by representatives of government institutions, organizations of persons with disabilities, media, civil society organizations and citizens of the Tuzla Canton.
This year's theme: "Encouraging societies that include people with disabilities to improve social progress", emphasizes the importance of inclusive policies and active social engagement in improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.
Although Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and has an adequate legal framework, everyday experiences show that obstacles in education, employment, health care, accessibility and participation in the community still remain.
A particularly inspiring part of the program was the panel where young people with disabilities and long-time activists shared their experiences, achievements and challenges. Their testimonies confirm that an inclusive and just society can only be built through the joint work of institutions, organizations and citizens.
The Information Center "Lotos" and the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities TK thank all participants and partners for their support and call for continuous action to ensure equal opportunities and a dignified life for all persons with disabilities.
The celebration of December 3 is supported by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Government of TK, the City of Tuzla, Kynnys ry and MyRight.
