On June 4, 2025, a workshop for youth was held organized by the Youth Activists and the Women's Forum for Persons with Disabilities of the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities of Tuzla Canton. The workshop offered a new, interactive approach to understanding and applying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The goal of the workshop was to bring the key principles of the Convention closer to members with varying levels of knowledge on the topic and different types of disabilities, in a way that is accessible, clear, and motivating.
The program was designed and led by young activists from the Youth Activist Group Armin Babović and Ervin Ćosić, along with Selma Plančić from the Women's Forum, focusing on the currently most important articles of the Convention for this target group – Article 9 on accessibility, Article 19 on independent living and community inclusion, and Article 27 on work and employment. Through exercises, discussions, and group work, participants became familiar with the basics of the UN Convention, as well as ways in which its principles can be applied in everyday life.
The second part of the workshop was dedicated to expressing the views, needs, and suggestions of the organization’s members. An anonymous method of providing comments was used through a closed box, which allowed for more honest feedback and suggestions for improving future activities. This method demonstrated how important it is to hear and respect the voices of all community members.
The workshop once again confirmed how important such meetings are for strengthening awareness, motivation, and community among people with disabilities. Activism, education, and mutual support are our tools for real change.
The workshop was held with financial support from MYRight.
