For Džejna Ferhatović, education was not only a path to knowledge - but also a struggle for equality.
Džejna is 22 years old and a student who actively advocates for the improvement of the rights of people with disabilities, especially in the field of education and accessibility. Her motivation does not come from theory, but from personal experience that has shaped her path. During her primary education, she faced discrimination and misunderstanding, which affected not only her schooling, but also her sense of belonging and equality. Despite this, she continued to fight for her place in the educational system, believing that education is the key to personal development and independence. Challenges continued during studies. Due to the inaccessible infrastructure of the faculty, she was forced to make a difficult decision - to leave her studies and continue her education at another, more accessible faculty. These experiences did not discourage her. On the contrary, they further strengthened her determination to advocate for changes and a society where accessibility will not be a privilege, but a standard. Precisely because of her experience, persistence and clear vision of a society of equal opportunities, we decided to share her story as part of the campaign "Your rights are my rights too".
Today, through her engagement, Jjena points to the obstacles faced by people with disabilities, but also to the importance of their removal so that every person has the opportunity to realize their potential and participate equally in society.
Her message is strong and clear: "My disability does not define who I am. My persistence, knowledge and desire to contribute to society define me."
Because when we enable equal opportunities, we don't just help people with disabilities - we build a more just and inclusive society for everyone.
