As part of the project "Strengthening capacities for independent living of persons with disabilities in BiH" which funded by the Swedish International Development Agency Sida through the Swedish organization of people with disability for international cooperation MyRight and partner organizations STIL - Center for Independent life from Stockholm, March 3rd, the second "Peer support" was held at the Pensioners' Home in Tuzla (peer support) session for young people with disabilities and training for their parents and members family.
The project aims to increase the level of independence of young people with disabilities in the Tuzla Canton, over a period of 3 years, and in relation to the research conducted by IC "Lotos" through a team of authorized researchers, using the method of conducting structured interviews on a sample of 40 young people with disabilities and 40 members of their families in the Tuzla Canton. The research answered the fundamental question, i.e. identified key factors that influence the ability of young people with disabilities to live an independent life.
The session for young people with disabilities entitled "Acquiring self-confidence and competences, mentoring program and mutual support program" was attended by 13 participants, young people with disabilities, and the "Peer support" leaders were Amna Alispahić and Zumreta Galijašević.
The session was dedicated to acquiring the skill of self-presentation. Participants were introduced to the techniques and tactics of self-presentation as well as what they should pay attention to depending on the goal of self-presentation. Participants actively participated in interactive activities such as role play, presentation of exercise results and mutual discussion.
The training for parents and family members entitled "Strengthening the function of the family and responsible parenting" was attended by 13 participants and the lecturers were Sandra Marković and Amira Salković. Parents and family members actively participated in the training, sharing experiences about the positive changes they noticed in their children since last time, giving examples.
Educational exercises were conducted, through which parents and family members of people with disabilities, presenting the characteristics they consider to be their strongest points, addressed topics such as: the development path of the family, the image of the family, and the role of parents in support.
