The Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" Tuzla, in cooperation with the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities from the Tuzla Canton, organized a traditional reception to mark December 3, 2024 - International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the "Mellain" Hotel in Tuzla.
This year's theme, "Strengthening the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," highlighted the importance of the active participation of persons with disabilities in creating an inclusive society.
The reception gathered around 130 representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities, authorities, media, civil society organizations and citizens, who through constructive discussions and exchange of ideas jointly thought about ways to strengthen the position of persons with disabilities. During the event, activists, young people with disabilities spoke at a panel discussion on issues of education, independent living, employment and the challenges of women with disabilities. It was emphasized that people with disabilities still encounter numerous obstacles in exercising their rights, but also that with adequate support they can be equal members of the community. Those present agreed that it is important to continuously work on removing obstacles, reducing discrimination and creating conditions for a dignified and quality life for people with disabilities. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a reminder of the importance of respecting the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the joint action of the entire community to ensure equal opportunities for all. This reception was another opportunity to strengthen solidarity and fight together for a more inclusive future.
The celebration of December 3 was realized with the support of the organizations MyRight Sweden, Kynnys Finland, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Government of the Canton of Tuzla.
