Transforming our world: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
"Achieving 17 goals for the future we want"
At the seventieth session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, a new strategic document on global development was adopted: Transforming our world: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. years as a framework for changes that will ensure that our planet is a better place to live, especially for the poorest and most excluded inhabitants.
Seventeen sustainable development goals and 169 specific tasks show the scope and ambition of this new, universal Agenda. Their goal is to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what they failed to achieve. It is also their goal to achieve human rights for all and achieve gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls. These goals and objectives are integrated, inseparable and equally encompass the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.
The goals and specific tasks will drive action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance to humanity and the planet: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.
World leaders have pledged to end global poverty by 2030 and ensure equal participation of the poorest and most excluded groups of the population.
Issues of disability and persons with disabilities are also recognized in this document, which opens up opportunities for organizations of persons with disabilities to advocate for rights and equal opportunities and ensure conditions for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
In our country, more than 801,000 people with disabilities live in poverty or are very close to the poverty line. Access to education, employment, social and health care services is very, very difficult. The new reform processes that are being announced are once again aimed at denying already insufficient forms of support for people with disabilities, which we, representatives of organizations of people with disabilities, consider unacceptable. By ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Bosnia and Herzegovina committed itself to creating conditions for a dignified life, full respect for rights and ensuring equal opportunities for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
