The issue of Initiative 159 provides an overview of the most important topics, stories and events that marked the past period in the fight for the rights and equality of persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
Through analyses, interviews, inspiring life stories and examples of good practices, we strive to point out the challenges that people with disabilities face, but also the strength of individuals and communities that break down barriers and create visible changes every day.
This edition is also dedicated to the memory of our colleague, friend and founder Sanja Zahirović, whose mark on the movement for the rights of people with disabilities remains indelible. Her energy, vision and dedication continue to guide and inspire us.
In addition to an overview of the situation in BiH and news from the European Union, we also bring you the experiences of young people, examples of social activism, stories of success despite obstacles, and a look at key dates such as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Human Rights Day. Throughout all the content, we are guided by the same goal – raising awareness, promoting equality and empowering persons with disabilities to be active and equal participants in society. We hope that this issue will be an incentive for reflection, but also a call to action. Because only together can we build a society that is accessible, open and fair for all.
