As part of the scientific research project "Inclusive Platform: Empathy, Inclusion and Equality through Digital Art", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, on October 15th, students of five sixth-grade classes of the "Lukavac Grad" Elementary School had the opportunity to watch the animated film "Jonathan of the Seagull Mountain" and participate in a workshop on empathy.
This educational meeting was held as part of the content of the International Children's Festival "Vezeni most" in cooperation with the Cultural Center Lukavac, and the students, through film and discussion, reflected on the themes of friendship, understanding, and the difference between pity and compassion. The discussion with the students was led by Professor Vesna Bratovčić and Suvad Zahirović, President of the Association Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" Tuzla.
The book "Jonathan from Seagull Mountain" by the Swedish author Jens Ahlbom was first published in 1986 and has since been translated into several languages, contributing to a change in the social attitude towards children with disabilities. This is the first edition of the book in the Bosnian language, whose copyright for Bosnia and Herzegovina is held by the Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos".
The Bosnian edition of the book was translated by Sanja Zahirović and Jasminko Bijelić, the graphic design and preparation for printing was done by Anes Ćehović, and the proofreading by Elvira Ćemalović.
The animated version of the book was created in collaboration with the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, the Academy of Dramatic Arts, and I.C. "Lotos" Tuzla, and its goal is to promote inclusion, empathy, and equality through a contemporary digital medium.
