A series of five peer sessions, which brought together 11 women with disabilities between April and September 2026, has been successfully concluded in Zenica. The meetings were facilitated by peer leader Samira Đidić, with the goal of empowering the women through mutual support, the exchange of experiences, and open discussion on issues relevant to their daily lives.
During the meeting, they discussed interpersonal relationships, parenting of people with disabilities, accessibility of health services, employment, personal and professional development, and motivation and challenges of the modern lifestyle.
Obstacles that women with disabilities face in exercising their rights are particularly highlighted, including insufficiently accessible health services, lack of adequate support and limited opportunities for independent decision-making.
The greatest value of these meetings was the atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding. As the cycle progressed, the participants became more open, expressed their views more and more freely, and initiated topics that were important to them. Different life experiences became a source of mutual learning, support and encouragement.
This cycle has once again shown that peer support is not just an exchange of information. It provides women with a space where they can be heard, recognize their own possibilities and empower themselves for more active participation in the community.
Because empowerment begins when every woman has the space to speak, the support to believe in herself, and the ability to make independent decisions about her own life.
The activities are implemented within the framework of the Program for Strengthening Women with Disabilities, which is implemented by IC "Lotos" Tuzla, with the support of the Government of Tuzla Canton, EDF (European Disability Forum), Kynnys ry and Trag Foundation (OAK Foundation).
