Association of Visually Impaired Citizens Tuzla within the framework of the award of small grants through the project: "Creating policies in BiH while respecting human rights and the rights of persons with disabilities" implemented in partnership by I.C. "Lotos" Tuzla and Association of the Blind of Sarajevo Canton, with financial support The European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, opened an important chapter in which women and young people with disabilities were recognized as key carriers of change and active participants in decision-making. Starting from the fact that these two groups, especially women, are underrepresented and visible, the project was designed with the aim of empowering them, motivating them and creating space for equal participation. At the very beginning, a survey was conducted on the needs and interests of women and young members of the Association. Through specially created questionnaires for both target groups, valuable data was collected that enabled a better understanding of their potential, but also the obstacles they face. This survey, in addition to providing insight into the current situation, also became the basis for planning further activities and strategic development of the Association in accordance with changes in the membership structure.
Through educational workshops, participants had the opportunity to learn about the importance of active participation in decision-making processes, as well as the Statute of the Association, which defines the work and responsibilities of the Assembly and the Board of Directors. Such workshops are a space for learning, dialogue, exchange of ideas and launching initiatives.
The project will be particularly valuable in promoting positive stories through personal examples. Currently, a video clip about the activism of people with disabilities is being shot, which will highlight inspiring individuals who, through their actions, show how important it is to believe in one's own abilities. These stories will serve as a powerful motivational tool, reminding us that change is possible and achievable.
The final activity is planned - socializing in nature, which will gather the project participants in one place, creating a space for informal exchange of experiences, strengthening mutual ties and planning future steps. It is precisely through such meetings that a sense of community and belonging is additionally built, which is crucial for long-term action.
The greatest value of the project is reflected in empowered individuals, women and young people with disabilities who now have more knowledge, self-confidence and motivation to actively participate in the work of the Association, which opens up space for further development and strengthening of the Association's capacities.
These activities have shown that real change begins when those whose voices are often underrepresented are given an opportunity and when that voice is truly respected.
