The life and professional path of Almir Merdžanić shows how much strength, persistence and will is behind every success of a person with a disability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Born in 1986, Almir currently lives in Donji Biljani near Ključ with his family. He graduated from a vocational high school in electrical engineering, and over the years he has worked in various jobs – from media and marketing, to working in the private sector, to being involved in organizations that provide support to people with disabilities.
His experience includes working in a media company, where he was a presenter, reporter and editor, then working as a call agent in an international environment, but also engagement in the non-governmental sector through projects dealing with human rights and support for people with disabilities. Today, he is employed by the Association of Hearing and Speech Impaired Citizens of the Ključ Municipality.
All of this is not just a biography – it is a story of a continuous struggle for opportunity, equality, and recognition of one's own abilities.
Precisely because of this life and professional path, but also the fact that he is a person with a disability who actively contributes to the community, we decided to share his story as part of the campaign. "Your rights are my rights too".
Almir clearly points to one of the key problems:
"Employers' prejudices are the biggest obstacle in employing people with disabilities."
His experience confirms that obstacles often come not from a lack of knowledge or skills, but from the way society and employers view people with disabilities.
That's why his message is not just personal – it is a call for change.
Changing perceptions, approaches and opportunities.
