Today begins the global campaign of 16 days of activism against violence against women - a period in which we speak clearly, boldly and loudly about injustice, discrimination and violence that too often remains invisible.
We place a special focus on women with disabilities – women whose boundaries are often ignored, whose experiences of violence are silenced, minimized or disbelieved. But they are not weak. And they are not invisible.
We dedicate this day to each of us:
• who felt helpless in the system,
• who was silent because she had no one to tell,
• which daily fights against numerous barriers - physical, social and institutional,
• who survived violence and moved on with courage and dignity.
Violence against women is not a private matter.
Violence against women with disabilities can and must be stopped.
Our message is clear and unambiguous:
Dignity is our right.
Safety is our right.
Independence is our right.
During these 16 days, but also every day, we invite the community to listen to us, to trust women, to recognize violence and to act. Let's create a society where every woman, regardless of disability, lives freely, safely and proudly.
Together we are strong.
Zajedno mijenjamo svijet.
