As part of the regular activities of the MyRight program supporting coalitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, meetings of the Youth with Disabilities Network and the Women's Forum with Disabilities of Tuzla Canton were held on June 25, 2025, at the premises of the Information Center for Persons with Disabilities "Lotos" in Tuzla, which once again confirmed how important it is to have a safe space for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and mutual support.
The activity of young people with disabilities brought together young individuals who are active in their local communities and who presented specific steps they have taken during the meeting aimed at improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. They particularly discussed activities related to enhancing accessibility, from mapping inaccessible facilities and public spaces to writing official letters and initiatives directed at municipal and city institutions.
Through active discussion, the youth exchanged advice and experiences on how to effectively address the authorities, how to identify obstacles, and how to create advocacy plans that lead to concrete results. Their message from the meeting is that young people with disabilities are not passive observers, but rather drivers of change in the communities where they live.
At the meeting of the Forum of Women with Disabilities, the participants discussed what is most important for a woman with a disability to be fulfilled, independent, and successful. Most participants agreed that the key to everything is self-confidence and courage.
As they emphasized, that inner strength and faith in oneself represent the foundation for a dignified life, freedom of choice, and the ability to cope with challenges. Women have encouraged each other through personal stories and highlighted the importance of mutual support, solidarity, and empowerment.
These meetings are proof that change comes through community, open dialogue, and the courage to speak and act freely.
