On the occasion of the European Day of Independent Living, but also on the occasion of marking twenty years of work of the Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities, a ceremonial meeting of members, friends and associates of the Center was organized in Belgrade on May 5, 2016.
About a hundred people with disabilities and representatives of government institutions and donors were reminded of the Center's key achievements, which have greatly contributed to a more dignified life for people with disabilities not only in Serbia but throughout the Balkan region.
A special part of the ceremony was the award ceremony for the founders of the Center, institutions and organizations, as well as individuals whose efforts and support made the Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities of Serbia one of the most influential organizations for the promotion of the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities, and advocating for the introduction of policies that ensure the necessary support services for the independent living of persons with disabilities.
As Gordana Rajkov, president and one of the founders of the Center, but also the initiator of the philosophy of independent living, pointed out: "The idea of independent living for people with disabilities in Serbia can no longer be stopped, because as a guarantee of its sustainability there are people with disabilities for whom independent living has no alternative and who will do everything necessary to ensure the necessary conditions for independent living for people with disabilities in the Republic of Serbia."
