Organizations engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a press conference
By Jasminko BijelićPublished On 03/10/2014
A press conference was held at the Sarajevo Media Center on Wednesday, October 1st at 11 am, attended by representatives of several non-governmental organizations engaged in the promotion, protection and monitoring of the implementation of human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The conference is being held in response to Bosnia and Herzegovina's obligation to present the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of human rights to the United Nations Human Rights Committee. Non-governmental organizations that promote, advocate for and monitor the implementation of human rights also have the opportunity to present their views on the state of human rights in our country, by preparing their own reports and findings on the state of human rights in certain areas of society or in relation to certain groups of the population.
Five local coalitions of organizations of persons with disabilities from Bijeljina, Doboj, Mostar, Sarajevo and Tuzla, which bring together around fifty local organizations of persons with disabilities, have prepared the Alternative Universal Periodic Review on the human rights situation of persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the financial support of My Right from Sweden and Light for the World. Mr. Fikret Zuko spoke about the Report at a press conference on behalf of organizations of persons with disabilities.
The state report, as well as the reports of non-governmental organizations that have arrived at the UN headquarters in Geneva, will be considered for Bosnia and Herzegovina at a session to be held on November 5th from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
On this occasion, representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities will organize a series of events in various cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and our representatives will have the opportunity to directly address representatives of UN member states and present the key findings of the report. The Universal Periodic Review will soon be available in the Download section on our website.
